My name is Allie Yang. I’m a first generation Asian American and a lifelong New Yorker. I’m an editor at National Geographic, chasing stories centered on dignity and respect.

I live in Astoria, NYC with my partner Will and our two cats, Katsu and Miso.

I always knew I loved to write, but it was the summer before my sophomore year at NYU that WPIX gave me a chance to try reporting in the nation’s biggest market. I was hooked. In local news, I learned I could have an impact.

Over the next few years, I found myself in a control room during live national broadcasts, getting a second wind at 2 a.m. on election night, and on the subway, editing stories on my phone. So much adventure in such a short time—and I’m just getting started.

National Geographic

I started on our incredibly talented Travel desk, now working on a new team writing and editing more stories answering news and trends. Always polishing the skills it takes to be a great pitcher, editor, and collaborator.

ABC News

I started at The View, where I was a control room rookie and I honed my research skills and political writing. Down West 66th Street, I joined ABC News digital, where I focused on long-form at Nightline and 20/20. I won a Peabody Award in 2020 for reporting on the Breonna Taylor case.

PIX11 News

I started as an intern at WPIX, and left a producer. Not only did this station kick off my career, it connected me with lifelong friends that have now spread to all corners of the media landscape.
